I Question On The Paper Color On A Sc1603

hi all

i just got a small kilo purchase today.
i have been doing some sorting and found 2 scotts 1603 copies.
i do not think that I have ever seen a copy of this stamp on other than blue paper.

please tell me if anyone has seen this stamp om any other paper thae blue.

Blue paper is the only variety shown in Scott catalog. I suspect the "gray" looking one may be due to excessive exposure to sun or another light source (or possibly soaked in some chemical) that has faded the blue paper.

Certainly an interesting stamp when shown in a side-by-side stamp comparison, but I doubt it has any premium value.

the paper is the same as the front.

I agree with the others. The grey stamp wasn't that color when it left the post office.

i have a question.
is this going to fade with still gum on the back?
it does not show but there is still some gum on the back of both of these stamps?
maybe it just hopeful thinking but I do not think it is faded stamp.

Check out this link and advance down to Item #66 which will show an example of a different colored paper, said to be "chemically altered by a common household product". Apparently it's very easy to duplicate:
