I was previously informed that some of the dated Chicago precancels shown in these examples were Type LT2-TS (Variety 1). Based on appearance, I assume all of these are that same precancel type, but can anyone tell me if there is any difference in value or scarcity for the dated versus undated examples?

Wt1, My Hoover 1940, shows the 1c = .05; the 10-1 is October 1901 = .20; the 3-2 is March, 1902 = .15;
The second line 6-1 for June, 1901 on the 3c = $1.00; the 5c 4-1, April 1901 = .50;
6c = .25, the 7-1 for July 1901 = $1.00;

This series of Chicago classic dated issues start with 3-1 & ended with 4-2, each month between are included. Many other large cities had similar issues.

There will be 10 pages of listings for all the varieties of these Chicago styles in the new PSS Classics Catalog - expected some time in 2011. There are many additions added since the 1940 Hoover. This will an important and fun catalog.

Thanks for all of these informative comments. I don't have too many of these classic dated precancels, but the ones I do have are certianly interesting.

By the way, I just found another dated precanacel (of a different style) from a different city (Boston, Roxbury Crossing, Mass.):
