Thanks for the info. Just curious, though: What's the difference between Sec. 562 and Sec. 435-1/2 as printed on your last example?

Here's link which may help some... I do not have a specific answer to your question either
and would appreciate a more thorough explanation also. I thought it went to local bureaus.

I did some checking and the Sec. 562 and Sec. 435-1/2 related to postal regulations for use of precancels that were in effect at the time the piece was mailed. I found that P.L. & R Section 435-1/2 was initiated on 05/29/1928 and was replaced by P.L. & R Section 562 in 1932 (and that Section was replaced with later regulations in 1948).

At least the dates of these regulations may be of help in establishing the approximate date use of the precancels shown.

I have a couple cut squares in my route 66 collection. I hadn't run across the Chicago or St Louis ones, yet. Very nice, I like the variety they bring to my collection.

there's no money to buy more stamps... I think I'm going for the virtual collection because it's cheaper, and I'm scanning everything I own. Now... let's see, I'll need a new computer and more ram, disk space better monitor, new scanner... Suppose a terabyte and a half will do? :) hehehe
