For all of the double-line precancels out there, it seems only a select few were used in Chicago. Anyone care to help me ID these?

As best as I can come up with they don't match the numbered listings, so is it fair to assume they are both the "L"-type precancels and, if so, which ones? Isn't it a bit unusual that the vertical oriented precancel is applied to the 1 cent stamp, given that it is not a coil variety?

1-cent is pss-245; 12-c is pss-243

I am not sure if it is unusual. I think it just depended upon the person feeding the sheets into the printer.

Thanks for the info. I guess I must be using inaccurate data. While I realize that 243 and 245 were the DLE's used at Chicago, I was basing my question on this sample sheet which looks as if it doesn't match either (the first 248 I assume is a typo for 245, but even then the example shows a single and not double line example; and the 243 sample shows lines that are significantly farther apart from the text):

Thanks for the revised sample sheet. I'm sure it will help answer a lot of my questions on the DLE's.

Is there an on-line source that illustrates and describes "L" type precancels?

You can contact Dick Laetsch precancel@aol.com with any questions about the society. (he's also a very reputable dealer)
