This reminds me of an old radio program called "Calling All Britain".
Maybe we can use it here as well? <G>

Just an observation. There are five (5) categories in this site for discussion on various US topics; one for Canada and the rest all "grouped" together into either "worldwide" countries or the "non-country specific" category.
Maybe some focused stamp categories for certain parts of the world would prompt more discussion on the site (?)

For sure it would be easier to start Gb discussions if there was a seperate place for them. However, I would be happy to start some GB discussions, with new and past issues. I collected GB up to 2005, when I could no longer afford it. [Thanks Royal Mail for pricing me out of your market! ]. As for UK members, remember this is a US-based forum and like forums based in other countries, will always be dominated by the 'host' nation. But there is something else to consider. I believe that the Brits are generally less into forums, especially collectors forums, than other English-speaking countries. I am a member of a GB-based GB philatelic group that was closed down by MSN Groups a few years ago. Of all the groups that tried to make it elsewhere, the GB group suffered. There are many members but few talk or post. I think the Brits are shy ! But lets see what we can do....... Londonbus1 |

Evening all! Not shy at all Londonbus1, but as Stampgal pointed out, most of the threads are about US stamps, and from what I see the US is not widely collected over here (open to hearing different, of course). Most people I have met since coming back to the fold seem to collect GB and/or Commonwealth stamps. Speaking for myself, I only get chance to look into the site at weekends and the occasional evening, and if there isn't a thread that leaps out and grabs my attention I don't hang around too long. So, if anyone fancies starting threads on GB pre-decimal not the modern rubbish), New Zealand up to 1970 or Germany, that would be great! If not will try to kick off something myself in a few days, time permitting. |

David, each subject you mentioned would be of interest to me, and I'm sure to many others, as well. We can always use more activity in the Classic Worldwide section! I'll try to make a point of starting another topic or two there this evening. |

I think a start would be regional forums. Probably not a good idea to start creating national sub-forums taking into account the majority of the members are North American. But I think you'd gain a lot by at least organizing the world in different sub-forums:
- Central & South America - Europe - Asia, Oceania and Africa (I don't see that many topics from these regions, except Australia)
A general forum remains useful because of topics like the Engraved stamps one, etc.
Don't know what type of impact it would have on potential new members or new topics but things would be more categorized. |

If various new areas are created that's fine, it may help stimulate discussion. However the easy way to see what's going on is the "last 100 active" and "last 100 new", that's the way I catch up. |

I think an ever increasing number of categories will cause confusion as to where to post and how to find items of interest.
Even now there are posts in the Main Stamp Collecting Forum for instance which relate to Cinderellas and items in the Cinderlella category which are about " real " stamps which tells me people aren't sure where to post their stuff or they post regardless.
And as for World Modern Stamps what would you post there that you couldn't just the same in the Main Forum.
Why is there even seperate World Wide Modern & Classic forums, I could maybe see it for US stamps. But not WW
I think a reorganization would be better than just continuously adding more and more categories.
Now I'm not complaining mind you just an observation since I really love participating here.

I have just joined, after inheriting a small GB collection ranging from 1850s ish to the 1970s including some First Day Covers, and as yet know very little. This site gave me the impression it is a good place to start. I enjoyed reading various threads and have contributed to one already on Thomas De La Rue. I feel sure that I can learn a great deal from this forum and will enjoy looking at some fascinating little prints! I followed my Google nose finding out about De La Rue to end up here. |

I found the range of topics intimidating at first and was worried I might post in the wrong places. However, on searching through and browsing so many fields I have picked up many useful bits of info and have understood a bit more about focussing when starting my own collection.
