Agree.
Here's the same seller selling a $15 [or less] item for $50 under another handle.
I have given him my best offer [market price], let's see what the answer is !

I generally think grading stamps is utterly idiotic and will refuse to look at most stamps that have been graded, simply because it artificially raises the price for virtually no benefit. The only exception are very high value or commonly forged stamps, and then I don't care about grade, but expertization. I just want to know if what I'm getting is real and worth the price. I can look at the stamp and decide if it's something I want in my collection. I don't need some pinhead who wants my money to tell me that.

These ebay crooks are selling $1 stamps for $100 as investments. Such as the following

I'm going to play devil's advocate here.

I looked at the listing you posted and there is absolutely nothing criminal about it. He posted a stamp, with a beautiful image, and a price. Also accepts offers. Please explain to me the crime. In my eyes, the only crime here is your libelous statements. Be careful, you make a post like this about the wrong seller and you'll be signing for your mail.

The only solution to your so-called "crime" would be for ebay to police the site and tell sellers the maximum they are allowed to charge for certain things. I'm sure you (and thousands upon thousands of others) would complain even louder about that. I know the day any site tells me what I'm allowed to charge for my stuff is the day I stop selling there, period.

Be careful what you complain about, they just might fix the problem.

"They can always go to the library and check out the latest Scott
volumes. That's what I do."

I buy last years from the library for $1 each every year!

"Here's the same seller selling a $15 [or less] item for $50 under another handle.

I do that too. Sometime I am genourse and offer TWICE the CV. Just to annoy them!

Scubu,

Firstly, I obviously meant crime in a moral sense, not a legal sense. If you think there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of other peoples lack of knowledge and naivety so be it. But I (and 99% of all people) think otherwise. Do you think that ANYONE would pay these prices if they knew that 1.) they could get the same thing elsewhere for 1/100th the price, and 2.) if they were to bring the EXACT same stamp in the same condition, said dealer would pay 1/100th of what he is asking for the one he is trying to sell. By having fancy paper etc, he is attempting to convey the impression that the stamp is something it isn't. Namely something of significant value.

I tried that too but as soon as the new ones come in the old ones disappear.
When I asked if I could purchase the old ones, the circulation
department tells me I should watch the shelf for discarded books.

But this is the second year now when all the old
volumes have disappeared even though I checked just about every day.

Either someone in the library collects or has a friend who collects
or they sell them on ebay.

jimjam's paypal thread of a while back was locked after my rant at a certain member, so I will not risk this topic going the same way.
Suffice to say.....here we go again !

We all know what you meant joe, and your posts are fine.
There are those who just love to disagree, for the sake of it.

Bingo ! ebay is your answer. When I bought my set of Scott's 2009 in 2010 I hit ebay and got each volume 1 at a time at a fraction of the cost of new. The most expensive with shipping was $25.00, and every volume came from a Public Library.

Well, no reply up to now. In truth, I don't expect one. If I did, it would no doubt be automated !
