Hey there. I've found this US-album in my collection and I've tried looking through it and comparing a bit with the online-catalog on Mystic. However I don't know the details that decides the dates.. I can only compare with the pictures. I think all of these are Used and in decent condition at least.

What are these "grills"? Is it how the perforation is done? 10x12, 10 "^" on 12mm?

Are any of these worth more than 10-15 dollars?

Sadly there were only one stamp attached here.. and if I checked right in the mystic-online-catalogue, it's not worth anything.

Here there were some more stamps, and it says 1870-71, although I doubt if everything is in the right order and with the right colour.

This 30 cent, I saw there were 3 different varieties of.. And it seemed to be quite expensive.. I'd like to know which variety.. Thanks.

Another page :)

I took pictures of the pages with the oldest types of stamps. They might be faults in the sorting, due to the pictures being black&white.

Hope you can answer my questions! Thanks a lot!

It is difficult to determine the catalog number of many of the stamps. The 30 cent is a nice stamp with good perfs and pretty well centered.

Yeah I know.. I tried myself.. I have no idea if the stamps listed under 1860-61, really are from those dates or not.

However I took that better picture of the 30cent since in the catalog I saw, with 3 varieties, the lowest price was 250$ in Used condition..

You single stamp 1861-1866 looks very much like a Scott #26 but not actually seeing it in hand is difficult. The grills are something you will find on the back of the stamp. BE CAREFUL. They were put there with the intention of allowing the cancellation ink to seep into the stamp more fully, but the side effect is that it made the stamps very fragile. The numbers that you see are the size of the grill marks in millimeters. When you look at the back of the stamp, if it is grilled you will see a small set of hash marks and the size of the rectangle determines the type or grill. Good luck.

Based on the stamp margin, it appears to be a soft paper my guess is Scott 190. The "S" of "CENTS" is recut which would eliminate Scott 143 and 154.
Edit: This is the 30 cent Black

Jhlovell. It's not a Scott#26, it's a #65 I think. Not the same layout of "3 Cents" and "U S" etc. :)

#190 says 85$ CV for used. That's nice :) Then I won't bother looking for grills on this one.. :)

Thanks for the info!

When "comparing to Mystic", don't consider the pricing.
Mystic seems to be one of the more expensive places to aquire stamps, and is probably
not the most realistic place to look when trying to determine the wholesale value of
stamps in a private collection...

That's true. Didn't think of that.. How much do you think they're adding compared to CV, in general? 20%?

Mystic is the only source for pricing I've got so far though.. However I guess there are other Google-able sites. :)

Thanks for pointing this out!
