Can anyone ID this precancel? I can't seem to find anything in the catalog that fits!

Sorry about the quality of the scan. I'm still awaiting my new scanner to arrive!

I have gone through the possibles for that city and 85, 263 or 841 seem the most likely.

I would lean toward the 263 because of the use of the punctuation mark after the state name, but I've been known to be wrong before.

I'm sure someone else will chime in that knows more about it than I do, though.

I can definitely rule out 85 & 841. The ruling for 263 dictates 2.5 mm condensed block caps between lines 8 mm apart. This one has 2 mm caps between lines 9 mm apart. Perhaps a possible new L listing?

It appears to possible be an 86. Can you measure height of letters & space between lines & words & between words.

This is definitely the PSS-263 - mine is also 9mm. I am sending the report into the catalog editor to see if the specification should be re-worded. The other two 263's from MO are both 8mm spacing [LEE'S SUMMIT and SPRINGFIELD].

Looks like we found another loophole in the PSS catalog. The editors will be editing up a change in the next edition. This is the PSS-263. Thanks for another useful question.

Just wondering! If possible, can any changes in the PSS catalog be listed on this forum for us to pencil edit our current edition?

The "official" changes to the PSS T&T catalog get published for review in the PSS Forum on a periodic basis prior to the release of the new edition. The next edition will be the 8th, possibly in 2012. I believe 3 updates have been published which cover alphabetically through New Mexico. If you are a member, you can access these reports online. There's been about 30 pages of 'stuff' so far. It would be unwieldy to post everything here - and there might be copyright issues. I recommend everybody join the PSS - I can provide info how and a reference.
