i was glancing at an ad in the Canadian Philatelist that one of my friends gave me...oh, the New Brunswick #1 or the Newfie General Balbo flight airmail..wouldnt it be nice...well, mabe the time is not right for me..but someday why not ? I have found some wonderful finds in old albums or box lots...and many of us can cut expenses quite a bit if we settle for a Fine copy instead of a Very Fine...its a great hobby !

Phil,
I don't have those either. I thought I had the NB #1, but haven't found it. I know I don't have the Balbo flight. But that is the thrill of the search. If I couldn't obtain another stamp I could literally spend the next 15 years or what is granted to me, just "playing" with them. I love to get a collection where the person has put the love into organizing and preserving them. They are almost impossible to resist buying. And I have not yet been disappointed with them when I have sat down and really studied them.

Jim

Jim I have a friend in Canada and when I see his collections I say how can one man have achieved all this ? Well he was never married and has no family...he is a retired actuary whatever they do that made an excellent living..so he probably spent half his income on stamps...he says he believes no one Canadian dealer can buy him out..and I tend to believe him...what a feast to the eyes to see his stuff once a year !!

They are his family and children. I am happy for him. We all walk different paths, sometimes we may seem to walk together, but each has a different path. I am constantly asked if I miss the paydays which were for much more than SS and retirement, and I admit they were nice, but that part is over. Karma will bring me the wonderful stamps if I just believe Yes, I did read "The Secret'.....still waiting.

Jim

You are absolutely right! It is a great hobby. And, to me one of the great things about it is that there is absolutely no end to the hobby. A person can spend $10 a month and have as much fun, or more, than a rich guy spending $100,000 a month.

Mind you, I'd rather be the latter, but unless I hit the Lottery I'll always be closer to the former!

Right Swabbie...to thy own self be true...i like to think I do the best I can with my stamps..without depriving us in other areas..my stamp time is divided 3 ways 1) reading about stamps and chatting with other collectors ! 2) sorting and cataloging for swapping purposes 3) working on my own covers and stamps !!
