Maybe this is a simple question, but I assume these are either a Type 251 or 252, but there are distinct differences between these examples and those shown on the precancel identifier:

On the left stamp, the "D" in "D.C." is printed directly under the "I" in "WASHINGTON", which differs from the right stamp which shows the "D" in "D.C." starting under the "SH" in "WASHINGTON".

The DLE precancel is the same size, but the spacing between the city and state is 1.5 mm on the left stamp and 2.0 mm on the right stamp.

Since the Type 252 example in the precancel template suggests that the distance between lines is much closer, do I simply have two examples of Type 251? Should I just ignore the fact that there is a spacing difference between the first and second lines and where the second line printing starts in relation to the first?

I would say that both of them are 251 devices since the distance between the town and state are much greater than the 1 mm distance found on 253. Left/right shifting of the state in relation to the town are fairly common. I think this is the case here.

Thanks. I thought the same thing as it relates to the location of "D.C.", but wasn't sure with respect to the distance between the two lines of text.
