Came across this news article posted a few days ago from Australia and thought SCF members might be interested. It makes for a nice read:

Mice article.
It's amazing how many people don't realize how much Australians have given in times of crisis.

We are rightly proud of how often we "turn up" in combat situations. Our population is around 21 million, and we have 1,500 troops in Afghanistan. Per capita, our contribution is immense. Sadly, we have lost 21 men in Afghanistan, and we will remember them.

We should also remember, the cost other countries
have paid in young men lost in similar situations,
(such as Gallipoli)
We play our part, but it is a shared responsibility and contribution to a common effort.

The death toll of Gallipoli by nation

Britain (including Ireland): 29134
France: 10000
Australia: 8520
New Zealand: 2806
India: 1891
Newfoundland: 45
Ceylon: 4
There were also 14 men of the Zion Mule Corps, 11 of the Greek Labour Corps, three guides and interpreters and one man of the Maltese Labour Corps killed.
