Looks by the date to be a reprint or kind of a collector series thing. At a quick glance through Scott's specialized there is no mention of a reprint issue in 1935.

Scott Specialized under Confederate States (right at the end, last paragraph) under the title "Counterfeits" states that in 1935 a set of 12 lithographed imitations, later known as the "Springfield facsimiles" appeared in plate form.

Also the 10 cent design of that stamp was never officially printed. It appeared only as a 5¢.

Tayler,

Welcome to the forum. It's a great place to hang out.
Go to the 'Introduce yourself' section and say hello.

https://goscf.com/f/11

Just click on 'New topic'.

The 'stamps' you have are reprints. Mmmmbalf mentioned the Springfield [Mass.] facsimiles. As far as I am aware they were not printed with plate numbers. 14 colours/types exist in Tasco Booklets produced by the Tatham Stamp Company. The one you show is not one of them.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page to see the 14 examples.

https://goscf.com/t/10908&whichpage...sco,booklets

However, other reprints exist, on both thin and thick paper, or thin card. I have a number of other types, more than 15 but again, yours is not one of them. It is possible that the loose ones I have are taken from a sheet or sheetlet with a bogus plate number.
Is your block on paper or card ?
Is it stuck to a piece ? If not, is anything written on the back ? The Tasco Booklet stamps are all Scott numbered on the reverse. None have gum.
There is no gum on the other types either but some are underprinted 'Facsimile' and others are not.

Now I wonder who works out of Columbus, Ohio and would print this kind of thing? mmmmm......

Londonbus1....hope this helped.... and confused !

Londonbus1,

I will go over and post in the introductions now.

The block is on paper, not stuck to anything and has no writing on the back.

Thanks,

Tayler

Oh Tayler, you are in for a fascinating 10 minutes.

Your answer lies here:

...and from ALTERED PLATES, go here:

Absolutely riveting stuff.
You may never find out who printed your block, and it's worth very little, but the story behind is worth the world.

Loved it!

Now I'm off to find the culprit !

Londonbus1, thanks for the informative links. You have convinced me to stay away from Confederate States stamps until my knowledge of stamps has advanced much more than it presently is.
