Interesting. Never saw those examples before either.
New Salem is an isolated small town in west central Massachusetts that borders the Quabbin Reservoir (supplying water to Boston), so while it claims to be the sixth largest town in the State, much of it is off-limits as it is wetland protected areas bordering the Reservoir.
For your info., here's a picture of the New Salem Post Office today (but you have to get there early...they close weekdays at 1:00 PM ...and 11:30 AM on Saturdays!):
