As a newcomer to the group and relatively new to the hobby, I am extremely thankful that I stumbled upon this board. I have spent most of the last two days perusing another stamp board and am amazed at the tone of the discussions there-in. Where I actually feel a real sense of community here, on that board I felt as if I should be thanking the powers that be that I was even allowed to glimpse the hallowed pages of knowledge contained within. It is exactly that kind of behaviour that will drive a way new collectors and eventually kill the hobby. I hope those kind of attitudes never invade SCF. I 've only been a member for a couple weeks but have already learned a ton from the group and reexamined many things I thought I knew. Thanks to everyone. Scott

Scott, I agree. This is a great forum and I'm sure it's going to become more and more popular.
By the way, I think I know which other forum you mean. Many other people have a very low opinion of it as well. |

I can guess the board as well, and although I read and even post there occasionally, you're right that there's much more of a community feel here. And the administrator of that board is one of the worst offenders for being rude! God forbid if as a newbie you make an error in your first post... Balf |

kegsgym, I echo the sentiments that the participants on this website are courteous, patient, helpful and knowledgeable. I have read the threads on a few other stamp sites and noted that on one of them some comments were curt and somewhat insensitive. I feel at home on this site and know that the learning experience here will always be a positive one. |

Same story here, rod222!
I was given a warning and banned for a month and then, when I wrote back crossly, banned for three months, and then, when I wrote back abusively, banned for life! |

I have visited a few other stamp discussion sites but have never joined. I normally find the overall attitude to be less than appropriate. I have found the members here to be helpful and gracious to all. I also believe that the depth of the discussions here seems to be much greater. If you do a google search for almost anything about stamps and collecting you will find a result from here. It is always educational and entertaining. |

kegsgym i like this forum so much that it convinced me to buy a scan not long after I joined and then fully participate by showing my stamps. After 50 posts I could auction and sell stamps with pictures of my stamps.Philately is vast and with the help of this forum you can learn much more and faster than by yourself surfing the net. I read allot on SCF on all kinds of topics even if they are not my collecting areas. Welcome and enjoy SCF as I do. Daniel |

I had a falling out with the admin of THAT board too when I complained at his double standards, amongst other things. He isn't that technical either which didn't help his argument. One of the reasons was that I wouldn't use photobucket as I already used Flickr. I believe there is no difference personally. After being banned (for life) , I recently found I could view that board again and saw they had updated their ridiculous terms. 'We do NOT like Imageshack or Flickr here, ditto a few other similar programs - as long experience has shown us it does not work near as well.' I still receive the guys monthly newsletter which is informative buy he really should either hand over the running of the boards to someone who has an understanding of customer service. I really fail to see how he has survived in business if he has the same approach. I hope we are talking about the same place as more than one would be a disaster for fellow collectors. Anyway, rant over. Welcome and I couldn't agree more with your findings. |

Same BS over there found me here. I even made it past getting blasted for my first post ignorance (used the word cents instead of symbol) but after having a post called juvenille attempt at best I almost punched the monitor. SCF is friendly accepting knowledgeable and tolerant which is so important in a hobby like this where the learning curve can be from top to bottom. Everyone here becomes an equal part of the dog wagging the tail where that other place has a big tail tryin to wag the dog. |

Glad you feel that way Scott and and welcome to the forum. I know that you are not alone with those feelings.
I have been a member for just a little over a year now and I enjoy coming into this forum all the time and am amazed at the variety of topics found in here not to mention the many informed collectors in here that are more than willing to share their expertise.
Hope you will enjoy many years in here.
