Philadelphia, PA Double-Strike Precancel On Wm. Penn Stamp

Unfortunately, this example is a bit damaged with a cut straight edge on the left, but even at that I thought it interesting to post:



1. Was the William Penn stamp a common one to use a precancel? (I don't recall seeing one before.)

2. Is the partial double-strike precancel a collectible variety?

3. Can anyone help identify the precancel type? (I suspect it's an L-Type, but Philadelphia had an unusually high number of L-Type precancel varieties.)

This was popular to overprint with precancel in Pennsylvania. I general not commonly overprinted.

I'll bet that it is an L-48.

Thanks again for the info. I understand there are something like 65 different L-Type precancels for Philadelphia. Is there is a specific catalog that shows examples of all of these varieties?

A few years back I bought the Buro software and to my knowledge, found it to be very extensive. They also have a Town & Type software.
