This is a rather bold looking precancel for its day. Looks like they bought an off-the-shelf date stamp and put the month-day-year on the stamp. Any idea what company CL&S (I think that's the initials) would have represented?

The "CL&S" is a noted but unnamed user, the only use in 1956, but yours is 1954'
Type S2.25-4-2.

User may also have been the user "CLS" in 1940, using a type.
