This is one of my favorites. A gorgeous old postcard that must have been Kathleen's keepsake from Grandma. And the picture is priceless. Postmarked Fredericton N.B. 14 Apr 1911 and a wavy cancel from New Market, N.B. but I can't read the date. It reads to Miss Kathleen Feeney, New Market, York Co, N.B.

Dear Kathleen - I suppose you have a whole lot of eggs for Easter. When are you coming down to see us again. With love from Grandma.

Absolutely the tops!

The pink X in the postmark and the blotch on the stamp. Is that from the post office or Kathleen. Why would the PO mark it with an X?

It occurs to me that the X might be a T. One cent seems like a bargain rate even for a postcard to go from NB to GB.

With the 1c rate, it must be Newmarket, New Brunswick. It is just south west from Fredricton, maybe that is what shee means "come down".

Right you are, BeeSee.

I worked in Fredericton and lived in suburban Nashwaaksis in the '60s.

All mentioned communities are in York County, NB.

When I first glimpsed the red X I thought of it as someone's drawing of a religious cross (for Easter), if you flip the card sideways to read it and write left-handedly perhaps. Looks like a nice cross to me but perhaps I am reading things into it.

If that is the case then the smudge blob thing on and around the stamp could be just some writing. A young non-stamp collector might not have had a great appreciation for an old green man on a postage stamp.

The colours of the eggs are chosen with care I see.
