I have a dilemma, and need some direction. I am currently upgrading some stamps. My goal is to have NH from #300 on and someday mint below that or what is best deal at the time. So I found two stamps. One extra fine centering but light hinge. The other very fine but small natural paper inclusion ( so small it looks like a tiny dot). Question, which one would you go for?

Without knowing the stamps, I would take the XF with light hinge as it probably has a much nicer appearance on the side thay you'll be looking at the most. |

I think I would take the VF stamp with the small natural paper inclusion. If my main goal is to have all MNH after #300, a light hinged stamp would be a minor irritant every time I looked at it amongst all the other MNH. |

On the other hand, if the second stamp was one which was hard to get even in VF, while the XF was not so hard to get in that grade . . . I might go for the VF. |

Now you see my dilemma. The stamp is a #303, not terrible expensive. But hard to find in nice centering for the most part on any in the series. |

I'd go for centering and better perforations. Since nobody ever displays the back of the Stamp, don't let the light hinge mark bother you. If you are looking to resell, then go for the harder to find one. |

I also prefer MNH (when it makes sense) ... but I have been there too, trying to decide. I usually select the one with better centering and perfs, knowing the stamp was in another collector's album. Good luck with your decision, 1775mac! |

For the past couple years I have been completely happy with a nicely centered mint stamps that may be hinged to replace a used one. This comes from working with anything before #300. Cost restrictions help solve most decisions for the early classics. I think I will get the NH one to upgrade the other #303. I fear just knowing would cause another purchase down the road. I still want to get better copies of my #300 & #301 because of centering issues. Now if I could only get a deal on a #312 nicelyy centered. |
