(with apologies to the Aussie members)

So it was a grilled stamp that got me into this mess hobby, and they've been what I've been most interested in collecting. Which is weird because the grill is on the flipping back of the stamp! The theme that I've been sort of organically building my collection around is how things that are the same can be so different. Here's some E and F grill pairs:

Ben is looking for a mate:
86 E grill

Blackjack:
87 E grill
93 F gril

The Carl Sagan stamp, billions and billions:
88 E grill
94 F grill

Tom is all alone--at least that's one less to collect! The grill shot is a photograph, it's really light on this one.
95 F grill

The 89 was acquired from overseas (no, really), after all, it was sent there:
89 E grill
96 F grill

And yes, I'm still trying to decide whether scanning against a black matte or a white matte is best.

Calling number 65 the carl sagan stamp is hilarious. Seriously, though, nice group of stamps. The black jacks are particularly nice, with their centering.

Great assortment and really tough study to dwell into. I'm becoming more and more interested in US thanks to all you wonderful people. I won a grill from Tim hortons roll up the rim contest a few years ago if that counts.

Love the stamps otto and if you are taking votes, I always liked the contrast against the black background :)

Very nice stamps Otto

I have a couple of 'grill' stamps' in my collection too but nothing spectacular.

I remember watching a Johnny Carson program one night when he did his rendition of Carl Sagan's "Billions & Billions" and it was hilarious.

Otto, I'm new to the site and your post make me go back to an old album with grilled stamps in it. I have a #94 split "F" grill. Which I could show a photo of it but I don't know how to include them yet. I've tried without success so far.

Hi Dale, welcome to the community (feels odd to say that as I've only been contributing for a couple of weeks).

There's a good tutorial here about posting images. One of the key take-aways is don't try to posting an image straight from the scanner or camera. A stamp sized jpg image from 12 megapixel cameral could be 1300 dpi and 500K. Supposing a stamp 1 inch tall, it would be 1300 pixels high, and would overfill the top-to-bottom dimension of all but the largest monitors. So processing your images to crop and reduce size is a must.

All the images I've posted here are under 90K--they average about 89. 90 is the magic number as that is the largest SCF will allow you to include directly. If you want to show a larger image, there are a number of free hosting services out there. I use Photobucket, and other members others. It's all good.

Have fun here, it's a great community.

That is a fine assortment of grills. Its almost like a sugar overload. I didn't even remember what the background was. My preference is black.
