New Member Down In Florida

New 37 year old member here, currently living in Jacksonville, Florida, although we're likely moving in the Asheville, NC direction in a few months.

My brother first started me on collecting stamps when I was about 5; he actually made me a stockbook out of construction paper and filled it with a bunch of duplicates. Much of my childhood collecting involved buying and soaking bags of Harris used stamps on paper at Waldenbooks whenever my parents made the trip, and sometimes being treated to the worldwide topical assortments they offered in the same section (the ones that basically came stuck to the pages). I still have my rather worn-out Minuteman album from the same time period.

A few decades, a wife, and 4 kids later, I've been gradually returning to the hobby over the past few years. I've always been fascinated by the past, and although I gave collecting loose stamps a go for a while, I've naturally gravitated towards postal history. Reading and deciphering correspondence in my hands that passed between family members, business associates, and friends generations ago is a fascination that knows no bounds. Trying to pick a specific direction hasn't been easy, although I primarily stick to United States postal covers, but I seem to fall more and more back in love with the hobby as I go along, and I'm trying to pass it along to my kids. While I'm still a relative newbie knowledge-wise in a lot of aspects, I've learned a TON just browsing the forums and reading the various topics from the past couple of years.

Hope to become a valued member of the community here, and thanks to all of the members for continuing to pass along your knowledge to the "next" generations of stamp collectors and postal enthusiasts.

welcome jaxstamper - if it's the the stamp bug you have, we all feel sorry for you, but we will help you through the worst (and the best) of it. All questions, scans, and ideas are welcome and we hope to see you on this cruise for a long time to come. again - jeff

Welcome, Jaxstamper! A familiar story for many, collecting as a child, then losing the hobby for a while, to return with a mature eye later. You know you've come to the right place, look forward to seeing pics of your collection and hearing more about it.
