Hi Fry1goat, Great to have you here. I'm on the other side of the world, so not real familiar with U.S. stamps. Although my collection is growing, thanks to the wonderful people here. I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can help you. Do you have stamps from other countries too? Steve |

Fry1goat,
Your profile says you are rather young. Is that your collection or does it belong to someone else. It is an unbelievable collection, with blocks of stamps that has a very large value. I am concerned with the storage of the stamps as they appear to be on quad pages and I see some stains on the pages which might affect the stamps. Please handle carefully, or better yet, don't touch them with your hands until you read more on proper handling, as you don't want them to lose value.
Also, Please note that before any mentions of buying, selling, etc. can take place by a member, the member needs to have 50 postings and been registered for 14 days.
Welcome, and check the Membership contest thread as you received a point for registering and 2 more points for the next 2 posts, so you have 3 points now. Since T360 welcomed you first he receives a point also. I will be adding another prize to the total later.

Here is the interesting story. I was working on my home, tearing out drywall. And I found this massive amount of stamps stuffed into the insulation. There are much more than those. I was thinking of maybe giving them to the local historical society. When you speak of value, I take it a couple dollars a stamp? I have pages of sheets. the first couple have some sort of stains, by water or somthing. How should I handle them? |

to the site Fry1Goat! It looks like you may have benefited from the discovery of a lifetime! I agree with Jim. You should involve a trusted adult in your find. IMHO you should also do the following: First - don't touch or try to remove the stamps from their current envelopes or pages. Second - try to keep them in a cool, dry place while you figure out what to do with them. Third - I HIGHLY suggest that you find a local stamp club with some experienced US collectors who can help you begin to assess the value of your find. The US experts here can give you an idea of what you have, but someone is going to have to carefully examine each page/block/stamp to be sure. Fourth - It looks like you could have VERY SIGNIFICANT value in your find, so take your time and investigate exactly what you have before you make any decisions about selling. I'm sure t360 and some of the other US experts will weigh in with other (probably better) advice soon. Fifth - Where in the heck did Fry1Goat come from??????? |

There are collectors here that would willingly give body parts to find a collection like that........myself included. |

Congratulations! We are ALL envious! Having read your explanation and seen these pictures, I have corrected my post in the other thread. There is no doubt that these are real. Some of the items are a bit beat up or faulty, but there are more than enough sound, quality, and premium stamp items in there to make anyone happy. If you plan on selling the collection, I have only one suggestion beyond what has been mentioned -- you should only take it to dealer who is a member of the American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA). There are unfortunately quite a few sleazeballs out there. The BUY (not sell) price of the collection that you have found (even with the damaged stamps), I would estimate to be easily in the 5-digit range. Once again, congratulations and keep us all updated. We're jealous but we still love to read/hear these stories. Also, keep it safe and your talk with others restrained. Unfortunately in these times, some people turn to theft. So be wise in your research! k |
