Found this example amongst some early Washington/Franklins. It appears to have the diagonal perfin "SAKS" on a New York, NY precancel.

I assume it's Saks Dept. Store, yet according to Wiki, the store was founded in 1867 but just incorporated in NY in 1902, so it seems this must be an early example. Can anyone more accurately date its approximate period of use?

Any info. would be appreciated. While it may have been common in its day, it's certainly an unusual perfin (to me anyway).

Thanks.

Yes, that's perfin type S26, Saks Fifth Avenue. Rarity factor is D+, given a value of 50 cents in the perfinned precancel catalogue. That perfin was in use as of 1902, and started appearing on precancels in 1914.

Thanks. An interesting perfin from a recognizable store.
