I have never touched Confederate stamps. This one was in an album that I recently purchased. A) Is it real and if it is B) Does anyone know the Scott # to it. Thanks as always - Jeff

this appears to be a scott# 12 (Which is the "Die B" version instead of the 11 which is a Die A) , as it has the extra line outside the ornaments at all 4 corners.
It looks real, current CV unsused 18.00
actually this is a keating and ball so CV is 17.50

still a # 12

What does it look like on the back, Jeff? It looks unused and Confederate "gum" is some of the nastiest looking stuff you'll see. Here's a CSA11, by way of comparison:

Trying to figure out if this is an 11 or 12. Not sure what the line outside the ornaments is. I don't see one so does that mean it's the 11? Thanks

That's a #11 Mike. The lines refer to very fine lines around the outside of the corners of the ornamentation. Also, I find the ornamental corners on the #12 are a little fuller, and the base of bust (where his neck has been severed) appears slightly more horizontal on the 12 than on the 11. It's not really, it's just the shading.

Here's a close up of the corner of my #12 dark blue. You can just make out the fine line at the corner and also under the bottom of the frame.

Yours is an 11, Mike. Same as mine.

This shows the "pilllars" from the 12 and 11 shown above.

And here's a detail where you can clearly see the extra line on the 12 on the left:

Edit: Nuts! If I hadn't taken the time to draw all the red arrows I woulda beat you to it, James.

That's ok Otto, it's not a competition (though I did beat you didn't I!)
Actually your side by side comparison helps to show the other differences I mentioned.
So for you a consolation prize.
