Here is an interesting set.

Apparently the USPS thought that these would boost tourism? Does anyone know of any other activities tied to this year of tourism?

By the way, I do have a duplicate set if anyone would like to trade for them.

They were also available "first day of issue" from local post offices as per the envelope below:

I don't have anything from 1972 but I have these from 1967 plus their pre-printed glassine.

Thank you Lucky. Apparently it was a world-wide phenomenon. Thanks wt1 for the image.

This quote was taken from an album page on stamps.org regarding your postal cards:

"To promote tourism and development throughout the Western Hemisphere, the Organization of American States declared 1972 to be "Tourism Year of the Americas." As part of the promotional effort in the United States, the U.S. Postal Service issued a packet of five postal cards with black line illustrations of popular U.S. tourist destinations on the picture side of each card These were sold in sets, either unused or with cancellations from the day on which they were issued -- June 29, 1971 -- from the philatelic exhibition then underway in Brussels, Belgium..."

I know I have the one with the Lincoln Memorial on it, I am not sure about the rest. I believe it is unused and not a First Day.
