This came in today's mail and I felt the need to show it to someone (my wife is visiting her mother and my kids just aren't interested).

I can't tell if it is black or gray black and I also can't make out the postmark so I'd welcome your opinions.

Know how you feel, no "show and tell" with the kids,
they look at you as if you have some kind of weird
growth on your face.

Lovely scan

Nice 36, Steve. I hear ya about the wife and kids disinterest part. The extent of my son's interest amounts to, "can you move the stamps off your desk so I can use the computer?" -- he knows I will "kill" him if he disturbs the stamps.

I've been trying to pull the cancel out with some Photoshop techniques, but with a black cancel on a black stamp, it's kind of hard (don't worry, I'm doing this for my own interest and fun). Sure theres the S up on George's forehead, and I can kind of make out another S next to it and I think the next letter is an I. Do you have a higher res scan? this one's 600 dpi, something in 1200 dpi would be good.

jj2, depending on the angle and the lighting, it sometimes looks a bit greenish to me as well.

Looking at the background behind it, which is supposed to be black, I would say your stamp is black as well.
