i was going through my boxes of junk and found a pack of 4 cent postcards..were they precancels ? I checked my Scott U.S. specialized and found that they were indeed UX48 precancelled 4 cent postcard....i was amazed at the popularity of first day of issue cancels for post cards in the late 1960's and early 1970s..many had sales of 300,000 !! I could see it in covers but did not think postal cards would be that popular !!

Now we are at UX600 almost. And they have not been that popular in a long time.

I've got a few first day postal cards, mostly for my Lincoln topical collection. They definitely seem to have fallen out of favor with collectors & dealers.

Do you believe they even did CACHETED FDOI's on Reply Cards? Here's a Lincoln example (UY21).

This type of first day cancel always intrigued me as there were no cancellation bars, the words "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" just fit neatly wtihin the green bars already on the card.
