I'm currently trying to complete the Pan American set, with unused well centered to the point of being XF. I just acquired this one and noticed on a high res scan the inking errors. Are these inking errors ? The white spots inside the left "5" and the "Bridge at Niagara" text.

Nice centering!

It looks as if the plate may have been underinked. Here is my copy for comparison.

Very nice centering. Looks like a minor dry print (under inked plate). The most obvious areas are in the "Commemorative Series of 1901" and Bridge at Niagara Falls". There are also small breaks on the outer curve lines of the denomination frames.

Unfortunately mine is a result of a scanner that does not do well with Blue. It isn't a good example of what it actually looks like, and the Blue is a deeper shade. I tried a few others and I get the same result, here is another example.

This one too is a much deeper Blue that my scanner makes look much lighter than it really is. For some reason I only have this issue with Blue items.

Thanks Russ, that's what I kind of thought. I couldn't resist the centering on these as now I have half of the set with almost perfect centering. 3 down, 3 to go.

Can't blame you the Pan-American issues are difficult to find well centered. It is a very lovely stamp.

You need to replace the blue toner cartridge in your scanner...

Seriously, the stamp is beautiful; great centering.

It's a really lovely stamp.
The thread reminded me that I still cannot see half of the images hosted on Imageshack

I'd forgotten, and so could not compare the two.

Would someone please educate me here? What exactly are Pan American stamps?

The 1901 Pan-American Exposition was in Buffalo, New York. There were 6 commemorative stamps issued Scott # 294-299. The Expo showcased the progress the US made in the 19th Century in engineering and industrial achievements. There were also 2 popular cinderella's issued to promote the Expo.

The stamps were reprinted in 2001 for all 6 stamps plus the cinderellas in a souvenir sheet 2001, Scott #3505.

Sorry lb1, still no response to my question from ImageShack. I'd forgotten how frustrating it can be to get the image down to a size suitable for uploading via the SCF -- here it is for your comparison.

Nice stamps!

I don't know if this is relevant to the Imageshack problems, but if you right click on the image, and click on 'View Image Info' a pop-up window appears with the selected image highlighted in the list of all the images on the page. Make sure you do not have the 'Block Images from...' checked or they will not show on your computer.

Here is the 'View Image Info' pop-up menu:

Just a thought......

Very nice 297 - aside from the XF Centering the center image is very difficult to find well centered and I would say yours is nearly perfect, only slightly shifted to the right. Here is my 297 which is not nearly as nice:

The Pan-American Exposition Issue was one of the first high-er valued stamps I began purchasing when I first jumped back into the hobby about two years ago - still missing the green & black 294 but my collecting has taken many diversions since then -- hopefully I'll complete the set soon :)

Thanks tomiseksj, much appreciated. Will endeavour to sort out the problem.

Skilo....I cannot get to that page you show because the image of tomiseksj is from his computer. I'll look for another imageshack pic that I can see.
Thanks
