Good day folks!
I am trying to do a bit of an inventory on my American Stamp Collection, and I would appreciate some help with the Scott#'s for the following stamps on cover. I have read other SCF threads on this issue and I understand that the paper type is one of the key elements to identifying these correctly. I have some of these stamps off paper that I look forward to checking the paper type using a strong light source, as suggested in another thread.
Thanks for your time, and I appreciate any and all feedback, opinions, observations or suggestions!
Have a Good One,
Skilo54

I am admiring the lovely squared circle postmark of Penzance. A very topical place for us poms born in the south west of england. Penzance is the most westerly place in Britain. I'd assume that postmark is fairly scarce.

I believe that all the stamps imaged are ones with soft, porous paper, and therefore would be Scott 179. I await a more experienced collector's confirmation though. |

Great covers skilo54, but I just figured out how to tell with ones off paper and in hand so a smarter one than me will have to help, sorry. |

And this, the Back of Cover #2: I consider myself pretty lucky to have these in my collection and I look forward to future comments, with the hopes of being able to properly ID the stamps in question.
Thanks Again Folks!

Skilo54, Very nice covers, I really like the PENZANCE cancels. The stamps are the soft porous paper issue of 1879 (Scott 185). |

Doh! I was thinking the soft porous paper issue was the 179. At least I got the paper right. |

Nice! Thank-you very much for your help with these Russ, I have made the appropriate notes in my album and I really appreciate it! You have quite the skill-set my friend, remarkable! I bet I could learn a tonne by reading your past posts!
Since I have them scanned, (and I would like to work on my post count anyways) I would like to share the other A55's that are in my American collection. I checked the paper type using a strong light and back-lit the stamps. I have come to the conclusion that all but one of my A55's are Scott #185.
Here are the stamps I believe to be #185, in no particular order: |
