I have also won a few rare items on ebay at bargain prices so if that makes me a bunny I can live with that. |

I have never bought anything from GS. It is unlikely I ever will. I am a member of StampBoards, although I do not actively post there and rarely bother to sign in when reading the threads. I stated all that so there would be no 2nd guessing regarding ulterior motives. This thread is about ebay (the business), but it keeps getting nudged back to GS. The original poster of this thread has gone to the trouble of changing the thread title to help focus it on ebay, and still it gets nudged back to GS. I don't have problems with postings about problem transactions with specific sellers or specific auction sites. I find that educational and each person is free to do their own investigation. However, it seems to me that the posts in this thread have gone far beyond that. I'm sure that stuff is said about me elsewhere and behind my back (although my wife tells me I have an elevated sense of self-worth, that nobody cares enough about me to talk about me). One of the many things that attracted me to Stamp Community Forum was the civility of discourse, even when discussing sensitive issues involving personal displeasure with others or disagreements with others. As a result, personal attacks at this site are few and usually get dealt with fairly quickly. I'm NOT a moderator here. Just a member who has appreciated the information in this thread and hopes it continues to produce useful information and opinions without disintegrating into something we might regret later on. Excuse me while I get some more Dr. Pepper and snacks... k |

Oh, I forgot. I rarely buy things off ebay. There's more than enough stuff here and on BidStart to keep me busy. If you are happy buying/selling on ebay, congratulations. We all have our favorite fishing spot. |

I completely disagree. So there. The thread was started about one man's observations of ebay. When those observations are prolific, and garner such wide exposure via his profile in the media and on the internet, it becomes important to understand the motives behind them. Hence a discussion of the person in question. |

This thread was about both, ebay's increased greed and an outspoken person's commentary on that. I do agree this is a far more democratic board than the other. I, like you, peruse but don't post there. I don't think that any of the discussion here has been over the top, but I have been careful to keep my tone very civil, you never know who may be reading! ebay will continue to exercise their market power, I just wish Delcampe had the market acceptance. Their categories are much more specific and I have acquired my best bargains of the past few years there. In the end, a new competitor will appear at a better price, but it will take time. |

I mostly buy on ebay and have had not one problem so far. I did try my hand at selling there, and immediately had a problem with a buyer that claimed he had not received the whole lot, I just gave him his money back on the instant and put it down to experience. I have also used delCampe and Bidstart and they have their uses, especially if you are looking for specific things which are not over popular overseas e.g. cancels on Tasmanian Pictorials. I have also purchased items from GS and again I have been completely satisfied and received my purchases in record time with very nice cancels. I have had a few run-ins (not about said purchases) with GS and have been warned a couple of times, but all in all I enjoy visiting SB and reading many interesting posts and being able to buy some very good material. I especially like visiting and spending considerable time on the GOMC site, where everyone is very friendly just as they are here. cheers alex |

I would request that the forum dad. or another moderator lock this thread for future posting. Every time you mention his name he gets more attention. and he DOES read this forum. So, if people want to continue to discuss ebay, please start another thread. But I ask that GS stop being mentioned. Either in support of or not. |

And that's what usually happens, which is why he is what he is, and does what he does. It won't just go away if we ignore it My last post on the subject though. Many more positive things to do |

Those readers who dislike abrasive comments might like to skip this post. I see a common thread to the comments on ebay and on GS/Stampboards. Some of us here are reluctant to play by the rules. ebay and GS/Stampboards, and SCF for that matter, have their rules for playing with their toys. If you don't like the rules the owners set for playing with their toys, don't play with the toys. If you want to play with the toys, abide by the rules. I've been sufficiently annoyed by ebay, and Stampboards, and SCF, to seriously consider pulling out of all three at one time or another. In the end, I've decided that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, and that I'll accept the rules. If you can't accept the rules of the games, noone's forcing you to play with the toys. |
