Other than the fact that this cancel certainly accomplished its goal of obliterating the stamp to prevent re-use, is there anything special about the type of cancel shown?

Looks like it might be a design of some sort with the white space within the circle but I can't quite make it out...or could it be just the ink quality from that day?

About 30 years ago I ran across a catalog of cork cancels at a stamp shop in Cincinnati, unfortunately it was not for sale. I had the name of it for years but cannot find it now. Hopefully someone else will know of it.
I checked my database and I only have 3 jack-o-lanterns identified (Boston, Providence and Corry, PA) and yours does not match. I will update if I find anything else.

Thanks. I appreciate the help. To read the intro. pages of the Scott Catalog, I understand a lot of these type of "fancy cancels" made out of cork were so unique each post office (postal clerk) often created their own exclusive design.

thank you Russ, thank you very much, as if I did not have enough to do. Now I have to go back and check all my blobs and see if they are jack o lanterns. I must learn how to duplicate myself. (I got a bad feeling I just set myself up!)

I'll add my thanks, too! Interesting collection of jack o lantern cancels I have never before seen. Now I guess all of us collectors are going back to our stockbooks of US Classics to see what "fancy" cancels we may have overlooked!
