I found these Common Design stamps under Postal Tax Stamps but the only denomination that I found was for 4a. Does anyone have a catalog value for the 2a and please no more forgeries (I am going to start a forgery album). Thanks as always - Jeff
jhlovell, your recent posting for help IDing stamps has taken me into countries where I have never looked before. I am enjoying boldly going where I haven't travelled before. With regard to these, I looked at Timor and noted in the Postal Tax Due Stamps area that these designs appear there. RAJ1 and RAJ2 and are valued for mint at 40 cents each. There are no pictures of these in Timor area of the catalogue. When I look at the common design area, the examples show "Molta" overprinted in the lower center area but yours doesn't have any writing.
I think they are RA1 and RA2 Postal Tax Stamps under Timor (Pombal Issue). I only have a 1983 WW catalog showing these examples. At that time value was $0.45 (mint or used, same value).
Note: RA1 and RA2 are the 2a denominations; the RAJ1 and RAJ2 as noted by mhc99 are the 4a (double tax) denominations.
wt1 and khj, thanks for correcting my advice to jhlovell. I am enjoying taking a stab at identifying stamps but hope others with confirm my assessment.
Don't feel bad, mhc99. I looked them up for the first time myself when prompted by this question. I originally came up with RAJ1 and RAJ2 also, until I realized the denomiations didn't match, then I went to a web site to confirm that the earlier RA1 and RA2 (not illustrated with the listing in the catalog) were the correct Scott numbers. We all learn from trial and error. Besides, it's fun!
