Shockingly, Momenstamps has listed dozens of .99 auctions.

Here is my haul today ... Woot!

Mint, OG Louisiana purchase set. $102.50 Not perfect, but very nice for the price.

371 MNH. $20.50 I'm tickled to finally get one. Always see them for more than cat value

571 XF, MNH $44. A bargain at half cat

511, MNH, XF Jumbo. Not cheap at $27.95 but is an amazing copy and should have sold for 3x cat value.

And one simple one that has eluded me ... 614 MNH XF. $6.

Thanks! I'm trying to stay on my stated task for this year ... to finish my 20th century collection in all VF+ MNH. I've limited my scope to Scott cat 462 on (with some notable exceptions) but struggle to find exceptional copies of anything pre-WWII for listed cat value or less. Some items are so ridiculous, you can't help but LOL. So it's nice to get a good deal now and again ...

Scott 653, MNH. Cat value for VF = .35

Shockingly is right. Momen Stamps traditionally is one of the biggest abusers of ripping people off using Stamp grading on post - 1900 material, actually still does so I really am shocked to see .99 cent auction from them / Him / her. Usually whenever I see any material from them, I skip right by and son't even give them a 2nd look.

stallzer,

I hope you're wrong about Momenstamps! I just purchased an R121 from them for $270. It has one fault that I can live with. I haven't received it yet so I can't say one way or another. I found out that they have an R132 that will be offered shortly that the scan looks real good, centering is VF. I can't say anything else about the stamp as that's all I've seen. However, the price at $3K is way out of my range!

I have similar bad feelings about dealers like Momenstamps, but it's based on his pricing. But ... if I don't like his pricing (which is most of the time) I don't buy from him.

I have no reason to believe he's a bad guy trying to rip anyone off. And his return policy is second to none. I got fantastic deals on these lots (and 5 more since) and I hope he's turned over a new leaf by posting more lots like this in the future.

Here's a link to the 511 I won. Read his return policies and you'll feel better, Art.

Rileysan,

I think the stamps you got from him are better than VF and the price you paid was better than expected, congratulation on your purchases.

I still feel OK with my purchase from him, it's just that when I hear negative things about a dealer that I don't have much experience with I question my purchases from him. I'm glad your experience is a positive one. I read his return policy before I bought the R121 and felt OK to get it. I was looking for the R131 when he told me about the R132.

Art, I don't think there is anything wrong with the material they sell as they have some very impressive offerings. I just simply hate the whole stamp grading system, as I don't believe that post 1900 Stamps should have a premium price for being produced the way they are suppose to be. Taking a well centered National park issue and asking for $300.00 for it is insane and Momen stamps has been one of the biggest abusers along with steve malack stamps, WM Lang and others. I think it's great that they are starting auctions @ .99¢.

You and I are on the same page, Stallzer. I prefer to let the market determine what an item is worth and why I love online auction sites so much. 15 years ago, I wouldn't have been able to afford these items ...
