Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to see if you can provide any information about the cancel used below.

I've posted it on various bulletin boards and mailing lists, and shown the stamp to both Richard Friedberg and Eric Jackson, and no one has ever seen it before. Not surprising, as there are a myriad of unattributed cancels out there. This one is just a little more "fancy" than what you usually run across.

This came out of a collection I bought on ebay from Great Britain. It's the only real reason I bought the collection actually, as I spotted it amongst the images. There was plenty of good material in the collection, but this was the only real cancel standout.

The cancel looks like a crowned globe or crowned shield, with monogrammed initials in both the crown (A.C.S. or A.E.S. perhaps) and the lower portion (maybe B D).

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Well, the only thing Google pulls up of note re: AG Securities is some litigation that took place in 1977. Would the company have existed in the 1860s? I cannot find a history...

Dan,
You could also try a TM or Copyright search. It could be a Company Logo.

Here is a wild stab in the dark. After searching what a foreign exchange stamp was used for it brought me to railroad companies during the civil war. One rail company which was British owned was the Atlanta Great Southern Railway which the line was purchased by the Richmond and Danville.. Could the AGS stand for this and the BD could be an RD. The whole thing might be the coat of arms for the rail line
