Everyone who collects U.S. knows about the 1893 Colombian Exposition stamps. Most have collected them up to the $1.00 or the $2.00 value, myself included. However, did you know that the ticket to get into the exposition are just as detailed and just as beautiful but much less expensive? I thought I would share part of my "1893 Tickets" collection.

Nice examples. Who was the printer (looks like it was printed on the very bottom of the ticket by I can't read the scan)? I think it was American Bank Note Co. Prompted by your post, I came upon this web site that shows many examples of these tickets. The intricate detail certainly can't compare to anything produced today:

The printer was indeed the American Bank Note Co. with the following exceptions; The Manhattan Day ticket was printed by the Western Bank Note Co, Chicago. with no indicator on the Chicago Day & the Children tickets. My collection of the primary tickets is complete. However, there are many others that I don't have.

WOW! like you stated I have the stamps up to the .50¢ one for obvious reasons (I'm not rich -LOL) and have beautiful tokens and both 1892 & 1893 Halves but I have never seen a ticket, let alone the simply gorgeous artwork on those in this post! I wasn't even aware they existed! Gonna have to look into acquiring me 1 or 2 hopefully someday. Again, Thank you.

Very nice. Beautiful collection.
I know it's not a stamp, but two of these would have bought a $1 Columbian stamp (back in 1893).
Here's my Columbian commemorative have dollar. I just thought, since we were sharing.

Be advised that in 1992 the ABNC made reprints from the original plates and they are so marked on the back. In addition, the paper used is completely different. The original paper looks like it has mold spot on them but it ink and part of the design, to prevent counterfeiting I believe.

art,
I've been as far south as Key West FL or wait isn't that West... I rarely make it to any stamp shows besides St Louis Expo or around central IL. I also have a few of the WCE Halves.

I started collecting stamps in the mid 1980's and my father-in-law collected coins. He had a few of the Colombian coins including the $1.00 coin. We would argue, in fun, about whose collection would be worth more in the years to come. He's gone now and so is his collection. I think my brother-in-law took the coins and sold them. However, he won that argument, like most of them, he was a good man. Perhaps one day I'll collect coins as well.
