Who was the youngest person to be depicted on a US postage stamp?
Excluding images of Scouts, military, sports, Olympics, etc., where young people may be depicted in generic form, I was wondering who was actually the youngest person to be depicted by name on a US postage stamp...and I am referring to a real person not a fictional character or cartoon.
I was thinking maybe Selena (age 23) of the recent Latin Music Legends stamp series, but was there anyone younger?
Any ideas?

Wasn't a young Shirley Temple on a stamp? Don't have a catalogue in front of me, but I'd guess she'd be there. |

Shirley Temple is still living, so she wouldn't have been depicted on a stamp ... a doll perhaps, but in that way it would be a fictional rather than a real character.
Interesting thought about the Baby Jesus. However, without studying the stamp catalog, I'm not sure if the name "Jesus" actually appears on any postage stamps or not (you know, the separation of church and state thing makes the USPS awfully careful about using names) or if it is merely the artwork of "Madonna and Child" as some are titled. Of course, we could then get into the age bracket of the Virgin Mary...
Another thought is whether there may be some obscure Revolutionary War Heroes that are depicted on stamps that may have lived only a short time.
I can't immediately think of anyone depicted on a US stamp (by name) under the age of 20...but I could be wrong. Any other ideas?
(Maybe someone will start a collection of all US stamps depicting persons under a certain age ... would make for an interesting topical collection.) |

how old was Joe Louis in the picture that was used for his stamp? I thought it was an image from his first year boxing pro but I am not real sure... |

Your thread is a stroke of genius and originality.
The school of thought I subscribe to has the Madonna in her mid-teens when she gives birth to Jesus (15-16). |

Maybe we should re-phrase this to define the "youngest person" as not necessarily those pictured at the period in their life on a stamp, but how long they lived overall. In other words, Jesus lived to 33 (most subscribe to that age, I believe, even though calendars were different back then.) Same thing with the Virgin Mary who lived well beyond the time depicted in most stamps.
Fast forward to modern times even though stamps picture a young Elvis (died at age 42) or Marilyn Monroe (died at age 36) or Joe Louis (died at age 66), they lived quite a bit longer than the picture on the stamp would have you believe.
Of course, we could reverse this whole topic and try to figure out who was the OLDEST person ever depicted on a stamp. Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan made it to age 93 ... who else?
Edit: Oliver Wendell Holmes made it 93 also, but died 2 days before his 94th birthday, so he would have been older overall than either Ford or Reagan. |

interesting way to look at things. for the point of argument the calendar were on a 13 month interval around the time of Jesus (to follow phases of the moon and the seasons more closely) so by that calculation he would have been roughly 35 - 36 ish....
but back on topic you are saying the youngest person depicted on a stamp based on the age at the time of death? this would be a very interesting research project. |

Wiki suggests that Pocahontas birth was "circa" 1595 to March 21, 1617, which would have made her 22 or thereabouts. Any others? |

Without wanting to poke a religious hornets nest, there are those who would question whether Jesus actually lived at all. Just sayin'. |
