I have this New Zealand 9d Official stamp in Mint Lightly Hinged Condition. Although it looks there is a little bit of rust on the gum. The rust is located on the top perfs about mid cetre and on the perfs on the sides near top.

Front

Back

This stamp seems to be perf 14 top and perf 14.5 sides.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with a couple of question's I have.

These question's are,

1. Is this the 9d "Official" Green Overprint? In my eyes it does look green.

2. What would the retail value be on this stamp? I was also wondering how much would the rust take off the value of this stamp?

I look forward to all of your response's.

Roos

This stamp doesn't exist perforated 14 by 14½, but it does exist perforated 15 on the sides. If it is perforated 15, it can't be the green overprint: it can only be the black overprint, SG O130. This is valued at £20 in the current Gibbons, but with rust and a hinge, I'd guess it would only retail at a couple of dollars.

Here is a image I have of this stamp against a perf gauge.

Looks like it is Perf 14 horizontal and 14 1/4 Vertical.

If anyone has some more information on this stamp and can explain it to me in basic terms that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Roos

So, what are the perfs for the green overprint?

Here is the listing from the current (2011) Gibbons Part 1:

Unfortunately, it's split over two columns, and the book isn't easy to manoeuvre on the scanner platen.

If you can't make the perfs fit the Gibbons listing, and there isn't anything about it in Campbell Patterson, I'd suspect that someone has tried to correct some bad perforations.

According to Stanley Gibbons the green overprint perfs are 13½ x 14.

Whereas Robson Lowe says the perfs on the green overprint are 14 x 14½.

SG is the 2011 edition.
RL is the 1961 edition with 1976 supplement.

EDITEDDoes anyone have a modern Campbell Paterson NZ catalogue to see what it says?

Tonymacq beat me to it

Roos, yours is definitely closer to 14 x 14½ and not to 14 x 15; so I would say that mint with no foxing it would have a CV of £90.00. The foxing on yours is minimal, but I guess that could turn some buyers away from it, unless it was a good buy for them.

I am guessing that you obtained this stamp as part of a collection; so if you work out what it "owes" you and then list it at a starting bid of at least double that figure, you can't lose and you might get two or more buyers keen to have it.

100% profit is nothing to sneeze at :)

I just noticed that the second type is printed on chalk paper, can you tell what sort of paper yours was printed on?

Perf14, the example I have of this stamp isn't the chalk paper variety. I agree with you with it being closer to 14 x 14½.

I was thinking if it has a CV of £90.00, and of course with the minimal toning/foxing, I was going to put AU$30.00 on it.

Do members think AU$30.00 is a fair enough price to put on this stamp???

There is one on ebay at the moment with a horizontal crease and they are starting it at $42.99. Here the link to the one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...TRK:MEWAX:IT

Look forward to reading your replies.

I need an SG New Zealand Catalog. Those stamps are enough to drive a man to toss his watermark tray. ;o)

However, they have zero bids, still 3days to go, so I would wait and see what happens with it before listing yours.

That is the plan Perf14. It will be interesting to see if it sells or not.
