Chica, Ill CxlHello everyone, This is probably a simple solve for one of you. I am sure this is a Chicago cancel as I can find nothing under Chica in Illinois. My question is this. is this a typical Chicago cancel for the time. If so, why was it done this way?. What type cancel is this? Did someone just neglect to finish the date stamp?
Thanks in advance,
David

David, This is a duplex cancel. It looks like it was either double struck or touched-up. The killer and the left side of the dial look good but the right side of the dialis incomplete missing the "GO" and the circular dial frame appears to be perhaps drawn in as it has an ireegular shape and the black is a different hue.

I can't quite make out the first name of the addressee of that cover. Is it "Samuel T. Betts"?

Hello wt1, I think it is abbreviated Sam'l. I thought it was David. That is why I found nothing for the name.

I thought it was Samuel T. Betts, in which case this may be the person:

I'm not certain it's the same person, of course, but it's always nice to try and make these sort of connections.
