Hi to all

Can some-one tell me what the overprint on these stamps says, and in the second photo is it common for these stamps to have such large margins. I have others but they are all normal margins.
These all look like they are on rice paper as the paper is very thin.
Regards
Horamakhet

The character on the first two stamps simply means 'Postage'.

The stamps in the second row look to have been line perforated. This can easily produce odd-sized stamps, if the perforator isn't carefully aligned.

Hello Horamkhet, I quote some sections from Scott 2008 Catalogue:

Looks your stamps in the first scan picture are all Scott #5L13, incomplete statistics there are about 25 kinds of overprint on this issue, but sorry I have not found the details for the overprints's illustration and value.

About the stamps in the second scan picture looks like the face value 1000 is Scott #1L142 and the faca value 2500 is Scott #1L171, but the colours are different for your two #1L171, and the top of "2" of the "2500" looks are different too, one is flat one is camber, I do not why, and did not find the information on the internet too.

Hope this can help a little.

ZhangCheng

Hi Horamakhet,

You are welcome, we learn new knowledge by each other.

If someday you are tired to sort out and want to resell your accumulation if there are many P.R.China items in it, please let me know, because for now the P.R.China items are best-selling and have a big premium than what ever you paid I am sure.

Regards,
ZhangCheng

As tonymacg wrote, the 'character on the first two stamps simply means 'Postage'.

This was put there to block the view of the Japanese flag.

Copies of the stamp without the overprint go for considerable sums of money, as, of course, the Japanese flag was not meant to be seen.

Thanks jimjamtwo for the information, I think so too for the value, as never seen the original stamps without overprint or missing overprint.

zhangcheng, I've seen one or two examples. I think this was on the Michael Rogers website (or, possibly, the Interasia website).

They're quite good places to research rare Chinese stamps.
