Cdnum, or the folds could be in the paper prior printing, like this example.

I'd suggest the folds on both were after printing.
creased from poor handling.

Interesting with line engraved
a crease will maintain its original print generally,
with typography and esp photolitho,
the ink tends to lift at the crease line.
Chalky paper images get ruined with a crease.

Rod222, appreciate what you say but after very careful re-examination of my Western Australia One Penny, imo the creases were in the paper 'prior' printing. I have a few Aust' 1d KGV that have pre-printing creases exactly the same as the W.A. 1d. Using old damaged spares and introducing creasing, the difference between 'prior' and 'post' is obvious.
