I'm terrible with shades so could use some help identifying the exact catalogue numbers. Thanks in advance!

The 1861 24 cent are very difficult to assign color from scanned images because the colors are so close. BASED ON THE COLORS ON MY MONITOR I think (best guess)
1. 70a Brown Lilac
2. 78 Lilac
Double image scan
left 70a Brown Lilac
right 78 Lilac

The only sure way to really tell the colors is "stamp in hand"

To add weight to what Russ has said, Some of the colors are so close and may have changed for a variety of reasons, it is impossible to assign color via computer scans and photos even make it harder. A case in point, with some of the shades, even the color of paper used as a background or the cover the stamp is attached can lead to miss identification.

O.M.G.! They are breathtakingly gorgeous to me! I'm so envious right now.

And don't forget "poor quality photos".

Thank you Russ and Ron for your input. Placement in my albums will have to be a 'best guess' for now ... at least until I get my hands on verified copies.

My post had a dual purpose. 1) is that I'm color blind and have a really hard time with shades, and 2) I read your post in another thread about wanting to buy one, and I wanted you to see how difficult it can be to identify these properly. Take your time before deciding to buy one of these :)

I thought someone would have commented on the partial image above! Since I'm trying to identify shades, anyone want to take a shot on this 67?

Brian
