My buying habits have changed since being on the SCF...i used to spend money on stamps for my collection...now I am actually assisting the U.S.Postal Service by purchasing stamps for postage to swap with other collectors...its kind of refreshing I needed some kind of a change..and I like communicating with my own kind as my multi posts will attest !
Sfgoda, I thought everyone had duplicates like myself...but some smart people buy only the stamp they need..not grandiosity like me..oh you will take 75 dollars for that pick up truck full of stamps ? I do not flat out want to give the duplicates away..but I would sure make a fair deal if someone had something I could use !
For my collection I usually on buy what I need or the minimium available at the post office. I always try to buy commemoratives or different definites (NO Forevers) for postage. I also purchase stamps for my office and use commemoratives there as well. Right now we are using Frank Sinatra.
Philb, I have a few duplicates. The duplicates I have I usually trade off. I just never thought of buying from the USPS with the intentions of trading. I usually used them for postage.......
I know I enjoy it when I get a package in the mail with modern stamps that I may be looking for and the local rinky dink P.O. doesn't have. I know when I get more stamps to start passing around I will buy more regular postage stamps to use on the covers as well as add to my collection.
Guys, I only buy commemoratives to put on letters to other collectors..i do not buy U.S. stamps from the post office for my collection..at Christmas time I will buy a book of Religious Christmas stamps..but no forever stamps...the Friday before the rate change took effect the guy in front of me at the post office purchased $250 of the forever stamp..good for him I hope he has a good return on his investment !@!
