I know all the headaches and differences in color and what have you but could someone versed in these civil war era stamps try to point me in the right direction on this one? it's a lot lighter in color and more of a pinkish hue than my verified 65 is so maybe it's a 64? Thank you.
P.S.
those white things behind it is just a piece of paper. Stamp is sound.

Going out on a limb but, the pinks usually are printed on a pinkish paper and I don 't see that in yours. My apology if I'm wrong and I'm sure others on this board will speak up.

Here are three Scott 64s with certificates (left and center PF, right Weiss) that were listed on ebay.

Looking at the three stamps you have scanned.
the left appears to be a#65 Pale Rose pink, printed early 1862
the center is a #64 pink, printed late 1861
The right is a #64 deep pink, printed late 1861

You will notice the 65 is missing the "blueish" or as some call it the "lavender" undertone and does have the brownish cast to it.

To Art!
Have you checked out your poll about fair tickets? I posted something there for you

Ron,

Those are not my scans -- I pulled them from ebay listings.

Here is the PF cert that accompanies the left-hand stamp.

It is apparent from the picture on the certificate that either the stamp has toned significantly since the cert was issued in 2008 or the seller did a poor job of scanning.

I agree the perforation finger print looks the same but the color of the stamp is way different from the scan of the certification. I think this is a clear example of why trying to identifying color is so terribly difficult using the internet. Epically, when you are seeing scans of scans or scans of photographs ect. Also, you pointed out something that is vital about the A25 series of stamps. Because the color is so susceptible to damage the proper storage of them is imperative. If this is the case here, it is a crying shame to see a valuable stamp destroyed because of carelessness. I have heard that there is a process using ammonia fumes to restore stamps that have toning issues. But I am not versed on the process or even if it would work for this example. Maybe Russ or one of the wizards knows of it and can explain it far better than me.
