Hi everyone. I would like any info available on these Lithuanian stamps that were in my $5.00 shoebox. I will more than likely be re-selling the majority of them and am just looking for any information that might help me with listing them on ebay. I also want to make sure I don't potentially throw a 'rare gem' in with a large lot. Any info you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a catalogue with L but, in looking for your Canadian stamps, I stumbled on Central Lithuania, and there they were. The first two are from 1920 SC# 1 (red 25f) and #6 (2m orange). The other is a postage due stamp SC#J1 50f violet red 1920-21. Very nice. I like the crude printing. Interestingly, these are worth more used than unused.
Scott has an interesting history of the area.
"At one time Central Lithuania was a grand duchy of Lithuania but at the end of the 18th Century it fell under Russian rule. After WWI Lithuania regained her sovereignty but certain areas were occupied by Pland. During th Russo-Polish war this territory was seized by Lithuania whose claim was promptly recognized by the Soviet government. Under the leadership O the Polish General Zeligowlsi the territory was recaptured and it was during the occupation the stamps of Central Lithuania came into being. Subsequently the territory became a part of Poland."
So these are Central Lithuania, and the Polish occupation explains way the name Poczta is on them.
There. Learned something.

Jamesw's description of the Central Lithuania is confusing and somewhat incorrect. Central Lithuania was a short-lived political entity (buffer state) created by Polish occupation (1920-1922) which did not gain any international recognition and had nothing to do with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

More details can be found on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republ...al_Lithuania

Initially, authorities of the Central Lithuania overprinted stamps of Lithuania, later issued own stamps. During two years of its existence, totally 53 stamps were issued.

Rod222, My avatar depicts 1919 local issue stamp of Raseiniai city. I am an avid collector of these stamps. These stamps are listed in Michel catalog, but not in Scott. More information about these local issue stamps can be found here http://lithuanianphilately.com/loca...seiniai.html
