In searching through stamp-related websites on Google, I find many references to July 1 having being annually designated as "US Postage Stamp Day" ... HOWEVER, I can find absolutely nothing on the web that refers to its origin, how long it has been around and/or who came up with the idea and why July 1st was the designated for it.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (The exact & entire wording of the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution)
Thanks. That certainly makes sense, but it is interesting that the US Postal Service never issued a formal proclamation about it, even in its archives. The date just pops up on a calendar of observances with no reason for it.
Did you know that July 1 is also declared "National ZIP Code Day"? July 1 (1963) was the first day the ZIP Codes were put into use on US mails.
