Hello Spencer and welcome to the club......
First impression is that they could be some sort of Russian/Finnish ?? tax stamps. Could that be where your grandfather was from ?

The orange one in the upper right corner looks like a U.S. precancel from what I can tell----what is the name of the individual on that stamp?? And what is the name of the town in black on it?

Spencer, except for what appears to be an Oakland, California precancel on a U.S. presidential (orange stamp in upper right corner), I would agree with Tom. Those in the first 4 columns seem to be revenue stamps and of Russian and/or Finnish origin. Those in the last three columns are not as clear but are also revenue stamps possibly of French origin. |

Spencer.....
You're welcome. I work mostly with Scott cats and it doesn't cover most tax type things from outside the US, maybe there's someone here that has a specialzed cat for Russia/Finland. |

Hi Spencer. The ones with a bird, similiar to the 2nd stamp in the top row and others like it, appear to be Russian or possibly Finnish revenue stamps. I looked for an exact match on the Russian site listed on this webpage of revenues... http://www.google.com/Top/Recreatio...mps/Fiscals/ but did not see one. There is an email address on the russian pages. I would suggest a good scan/photo of 1 and send it to the email listed there for addition info. The 1st stamp is in Bani which would be Romanian currency. Again, it appears to be a revenue stamp from Romania. The ones in "c" money, 5th, 6th & 7th row of stamps, look to be revenue stamps from France. The one in the top right corner is a US precancel, as Gussyboy has already mentioned. I have no idea of value of any of them. |

Stamps 3,4,5,6 & 8 are French revenue stamps, 9 & 10 I would say are Russian (Finland was a part of Russia at 1 time, just not certain of it's status in 1877 date on stamps) and 7 is an Romanian revenue stamp. Not certain on the postcards so will leave those to be answered by a cover person. |

Nice looking covers AKA stamped envelopes. Especially the first one with the Panamal Pacific Expo postmark. Are you interested in starting your own collection or will you be continuing your grandfather's collection? |
