A Trip To The Post Office !

I went to the post office this morning with two letters..when it was my turn...i told the girl I wanted stamps on the envelopes ..she said we can do that and peeled off two 42 cent stamps...i mentioned..those letters are addressed to AUSTRALIA....duh...ok..94 cents each and she prints a label and puts it on one envelope...i said I asked for stamps..she peeled the label which had not dried and affixed the appropriate stamps to the letters...BRAVO !!

"I know we're the post office, but are you really sure you want to use those ugly old stamps? I mean, really dude, there like so last century."

Ahoy Shipmate! Served from 1971 through 1992 East, West and Gulf Coast, 3 Med cruises, 5 WestPacs, and trips to some of the finest and fun ports on the face of the earth. Unfortunately, most of them don't like us now. I served on the Ranger, Midway, Downes, Capodanno, Saginaw and was skipper of the units that did the T&E on the LCAC hovercraft and special ops missile boats.

Our number two son retired in 05' you guys might have crossed wakes along the way. He was mostly Pacific, but did do a 2 yr. tour in Sicily, and two 2yr. tours down in Texas, Kingville & Corpus Christi He started his active tour of duty in '78

You and my Dad probably kicked around Korea about the same time. He was an old time Snipe that rarely got to see the sun.

I am wondering if they are trying to do away with stamps all together. Our P.O. has done way with the vending machine now all we have is a great big sheet of plywood in the space it was in.

I would think they make too much money from stamp collectors, to do away with stamps.

Trig, the post office claims it only makes a tiny amount of their total from stamp collectors..with me its possible..i find it easy to buy discounted postage which they thought would probably never see actual service..i have lots of 3 cent commemoratives to add to 39 cent stamps etc....

Hey, my dad was a marine (22nd Marines, Tactical Group one, Fifth Amphibious Corp) in WWII at Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands. He also served in the Korean Conflict. I salute all of you who have served--Dianne was in the service,too! My hubby was a Navy guy during Vietnam as well as my two brothers. God bless you all!

Sorry I cut out so fast last nite, but we had thunder storms move in on us real fast, had to shut down in the middle of posting back to you.
After the better half had her phone line fried a years back when we were on dial up, soon as we hhear thunder these days we shut down, even if its not right close by.

Not a problem. I understand staying away from lightning!

Three generations Navy family here, My Dad WWII Seabee, myself Korean War Era and my number two son a Veteran of Desert Storm,and again in the Iraq & Afghanistan Wars, after 28 years of praying that he would pass in Harm's Way safely our prayers came to pass, he ritired in"05 safe and sound.

Think our son may have crossed wakes with Charles, sounds like they both were on the same WestPac deployment back in '88. He was aboard the FIFE DD991 on that deployment as leading PO for his Helo Squadron detachment

Sheesh, Sneeky, you are making me resurrect long-dead brain cells. I was on WESTPAC in '88 - that was Operation Ernest Wills, protecting tankers coming out of the gulf. We knocked out a couple or three Iranian destroyers, some missile boats and a couple of oil rigs being used as weapons platforms. It was billed as the biggest naval battle since WWII. I don't specifically recall the FIFE, but then our escorts were usually over the horizon and I worked in the bowels of the ship. People in the states knew more about what was going on than we did.

Looks it really is a small world.
