I was looking thru a selection of earlier US stamps and
saw a pale version of the same subject. Rather than hijack the
why cant this be a 211b....i have my own prayers here. very much a pale version of the rest? ? its the center of the center for the visually restricted..

From what I can see in the scan none of them have the secret mark which means they are
187 soft porous paper or 150 White wove paper
The secret mark is a small semi circle in the scroll at top on the right hand side of the label that says us postage
One of them could be a 209 re-engraved with four vertical lines to the side between the middle of the frame and the edge of the design. And the horizontal lines of background have been strengthened but I can't see that much detail in the scan

Razoredge, for my own info, is this the semi circle you mentioned ?

That's the one and then it can be 161, 172, 188, 197 depending on paper type and special printing (172, 197)

Just read something in Scott "no 197 was printed from plate 302 (or 303) after plate was re-entered, therefore stamp may show normal hairline or missing secret mark"
So the chances of finding that one is almost zero being as it was on soft porous paper
