Hi!

Since it is my first post here,I would like to say that I enjoyed reading some great informational posts you guys are sharing here on this forum. And after lurking for about 2 months or so I decided to take an action and become a member.
My collecting interests at the moment are Lithuanian air post and varieties/errors between WWI/WWII periods. But in reality I collect everything and anything at anytime :)) I guess it's just the nature of the collector.
So here is the stamps in question as I have no deeper knowledge besides classic scott catalogue, and plus those early shade/color varietys of the U.S. material sometimes give a headache.:)))

J-15 partially imperf

csa#12 I'm really liking the design of this stamp, plus it has a big margins, just not sure if this is common for this issue.

privately issued?

Welcome!

Your last scan from Hussey's Express I believe to be an 87L75 (Type II). It was issued in 1880 on "Glazed Surface Wove Paper" and is perf. 12. It is listed as a "Local Stamp" in the Scott Specialized Catalog. My catalog is dated to 2002, but in that edition the stamp was valued at $1.50 Mint/$3.50 Used. Of course, the catalog value will be diminished given the damage to the upper right corner of the stamp shown in your scan. Still a nice example of a rarely seen local stamp.

The "Playing Cards" revenue stamp (next to last scan) I believe to be an R2. That stamp has a $140 catalog value (2002 Scott Specialized), although your example is a bit off center (which was quite common for that stamp). There are some revenue specialists on this site that may be able to give you more information on it and/or the December 1862 cancellation.

IMO the J15 has been reperfed on the right side.
I could be wrong, but it doesn't appear to line up properly with the others.

The cancel on that R2c is quite nice! Even in it's poor state it would still be at least a $50 stamp! Printed cancels on 1st series revenues are NOT common. A very nice find!

Hi Kirks! I Already posted an introduction ! :)

Hi Wt1! Thank you for your info,hmm... I would guessed the Hussey's stamp is from the 1950's or so but never from the 1880's,quite modern design for this era and plus the shiny paper adds it's "new look appearance".
And that Revenue stamp I have to check for any thinned areas cause the paper looks very aged. But the value makes it all worth,I bought it in December from one of the ebay sellers from the Netherlands, plus the J15 stamp came from the same lot.

Hi Ratio411! Thank you for your opinion,I do agree it looks differently shaped "teeth" comparing top and right perforations.Scott's catalogue doesn't mention them in imperforated state(well at least mine) so thats why I'm a bit interested, and I don't have a specialized catalogues of this area.

Once again Thank you to all of you!

Hi Revstampman!

Considering that I bought the whole stamp accumulation for 35 bucks :) and thats including shipping I'm calling it a "dummie to dummie" transaction lol.I actually bought it because it had a very nice Greece Air post in MH condition(C1-C4) and some other stuff of my interest.I really like to buy from the not so dealer looking guys, the only downside that they not selling on the scheduled basis so you literary have to track them ;) Because a proper dealer will not let this kind of deal through his fingers ;)
Have a good evening everybody, and I'm going to sort some more stamps, which I bought in the past 6 months and even didn't touched it 'cause the job ate all my spare minutes.

the J-14 is not a partial imperf, sorry. to qualify it has to be imperf on top or bottom , or left and right.
Your stamps is just a corner sheet stamp.

bit having my catalog handy. your CSA 12 is in vary good shape with nice wide margins. it could be an 11 or 12 depending on the scroll work, don't find a lot of those with that wide a margin.

Wow!
that Hussey local I have known about for years,
but your scan shows it was printed by
Nicholas F Seebeck, that famous fellow who
printed all the south american reprints.

That was quite a shock for me to note that!

Nicholas Frederick Seebeck was born in
Germany in 1857. He emigrated to the
United States in 1866 at the age of 9.

Settling in New York City, he opened a
job-printing and stationery store and
became involved in the stamp trade.

By the age of 19, he published his first
stamp catalog: "Descriptive Price Catalogue
of All Known Postage Stamps of the
United States and Foreign Countries."

Seebeck soon made the transition from
selling stamps to collectors to actually
producing postage stamps, beginning in
1879, for the Dominican Republic and the
Colombian state of Bolivar. In 1884,
Seebeck sold his stamp business and
used the money to buy into the Hamilton
Bank Note Engraving and Printing Company.

Hi I_Love_Stamps !

Thank you for the greeting, for me sorting stamps it's more like a meditative state of mind :0 he he I totally get lost while going through these pieces of paper, and loose any sense of time whatsoever.... plus sometimes I skip a heartbeat,or two if suddenly some "rarity" emerges from the "pile of ashes" only to find out it has a "facsimile" printed on the other side :)))))))

Hey stampvirgin,
Yeah, the CSA stamp is my latest favorite find.

Hi Rod,
Thanks for that nice chunk of information!I'm really a dummie when it comes to U.S. stamps.
Oh wow.. at the age of 19 to publish the stamp catalogue...I guess at those days people really didn't watched other peoples lives(so called reality tv)...

The R2c cancel is from the playing card company of John J. Levy, located in New York City. These are most frequently found faulty.
