I just came across this example of a severely discolored stamp. When scanned next to a normal example, it really stands out. Must have been exposed to chemicals or bleach or exposed to sunlight to have completely discolored the stamp as shown. Interestingly, the precancel overprint remains unaffected.
Any ideas as to what would have caused this? Was it intentional? I know the color of this issue does lends itself to fading, but never have I seen such a dramatic "gray" effect:
