I just realized that stamp orders I make from the Royal Mail in England arrive here in The States far quicker than an order from the USPS.

I wonder why?

The USPS, like Santa, checks it list twice -- so it takes a little longer to fulfill your order.

Nells250, I have noticed that mail delivery is quicker from GB, Germany and Sweden than from the US. I'm puzzled by this also.

I've proof - postmarked - it used to be in the 1950's that Regular Air/ NO Special Delivery / was sent from NY, DC, Chicago or St Louis to San Francisco and actually DELIVERED to a home in 24 hours.
I'd say work ethic has changed significantly in 50 odd years; but, do you think it also goes to reading, writing and ... oh my ... not math... and sorting ability? isn't that part of the reason they want the barcodes? So a machine can do it?

Now you have to pay an Express Mail rate to get that kind of 24 hour service.

Was that the norm back then, or more of a lucky anomally?

I also find that shipping from England is reasonable. Granted, when the USPS started charging for shipping, it was $1.00 only, but with Royal Mail, you get some pretty nice stamp storage cards that can be used again and again. The USPS gives you stacks of plastic and cardboard... though the cardboard can also be useful...

By the way, I refer to ordering from the USPS catalog, not online. I found that ordering once online got me off the catalog mailing list, so I don't order online...

This topic makes a question arise for me- how often does mail get lost these days by these companies? I'm beginning to think I may not recieve my package from England. It was shipped May 10th, and I recieved a lovely packet from our Stampgal in UK shortly after the 10th (which I know was sent around the same time I ordered my stamps) if that makes sense. Anyone else having similar problems with Royal Mail?

Matt, Judging from the small number of covers I have from that time - it was the norm then. Sad when progress - isn't. Barb
